Lakeshaw School
Lakeshaw School was located at mile 53.9 on the Cowichan railway between Kinsol at Mile 51.9 and Deerholme at Mile 58. It was in operation for only two years, 1930-1932 and had one teacher, Miss Margaret Eleanor Clark (later Maywood).
The sawmill beside the Lakeshaw railway siding burned down in 1931 and the school closed, likely because all the men with families working at the mill moved on to employment/housing elsewhere.
Other than the BC Annual Reports of the BC School Superintendent for 1931 and 1932, the only documentary evidence we have of the school is this Roll of Honour Certificate (below) presented in 1931 by Miss Clark to Ralph Cavin who lived on Lakeshaw Farm. Ralph died in 1937 at the age of 13 years in an accident on the family farm.
