J.H. BOYD SCHOOL

J. H. Boyd Primary School was built in 1962 after School District 66 (Lake Cowichan) realized there was a need for a new school for primary students north of the Cowichan River.  The school was named after Colonel John Henry Boyd who was Chairman of the local school board in 1933 and then served as Secretary-Treasurer from 1934-1960.

The school was completely gutted by fire in May 1965.  Construction of the replacement school on the same site began in September 1965.  An addition was added in 1967.  In June 1983 after being in operation for 21 years that closed was permanent closed.

The school building and property were sold to a private buyer and allowed to sit unused, board up and derelict.  In 2018 the owner was required by the Lake Cowichan owner to tear down the building and put up a safety fence.
